Ogunquit Is Alive Again — And Summer Is Just Getting Started

There's a feeling you only get in Ogunquit in mid-May. The fog lifts, the sun finally wins, and suddenly — everything comes back to life. The restaurant signs flip to "OPEN," the boutiques unlock their doors, the lobster boats are back in the cove, and that salty ocean breeze hits you like a welcome home hug.

This weekend, we're looking at 70s and sunny. In Ogunquit, that's a full-blown celebration.

The Town Is Waking Up

Early season Ogunquit is honestly one of its best-kept secrets. The beaches aren't packed, the wait times are manageable, and you can actually breathe the town in before the July crowds roll through. Marginal Way — that gorgeous 1.25-mile coastal cliff walk — is peaceful and stunning right now, with spring wildflowers and wide-open ocean views. Perkins Cove is buzzing back to life with fishing boats, galleries, and the iconic drawbridge.

Hit the Beach (Yes, Already)

Ogunquit Beach is one of the longest and most beautiful beaches in New England, and in mid-May it's all yours. Kick your shoes off, walk the shoreline, and grab a coffee to go. The water is still brisk, but the sand? Perfect. Bring a blanket and soak up that vitamin D — you've earned it after this winter.

Culture is Back: The Ogunquit Playhouse is Open

The legendary Ogunquit Playhouse ā€” one of America's most celebrated summer theatres — just kicked off its 94th season. Right now through June 13, they're running Ain't Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations* — the electrifying Broadway biomusical packed with Motown hits and directed by Gerry McIntyre. If you haven't seen it, this is your sign. It's soul, style, and storytelling all on one stage, right here in our little seaside town. Tickets are on sale now at ogunquitplayhouse.org.

Early Season Things To Do Right Now

  • Walk Marginal Way ā€” catch it before the summer crowds; golden hour on the cliffs is chef's kiss

  • Explore Perkins Cove ā€” browse galleries, grab a lobster roll, watch the boats come in

  • Ogunquit Beach ā€” long walks, beach reads, early-season bliss

  • Check out local galleries ā€” the art scene opens up early and the pieces are incredible

  • Dine local ā€” restaurants are reopening and chefs are fired up with fresh spring menus (you know we are šŸ‘€)

  • Catch Ain't Too Proud at the Playhouse ā€” running now through June 13

  • Live music is starting back up around town ā€” CREW is already at 3 nights a week. Thursdays at 5pm we have Isaiah Bennett. Friday & Saturday nights at 7pm we have rotating artists. As we get closer to July we'll evenutally have it 7 nights a week.

Summer Is Coming Fast

Mark your calendars: Pride is the first weekend in June, always a must attend in Ogunquit. BonAire!, Ogunquit's beloved anniversary celebration featuring live music, art, food, and fireworks is coming in June. Then it's Music in the Park every Sunday evening, Music in the Cove on Wednesdays and Fridays, the 4th of July, and the Sandcastle Building Contest in July — the whole season stacks up beautifully.

But right now? Right now is the sweet spot. The sun is out, the town is alive, and Ogunquit is doing what it does best — being one of the most beautiful places on the Maine coast.

Come find us. Summer has officially begun. šŸŒŠā˜€ļø
